Today, I had the pleasure of talking with students at a local highschool who were interested in translation as a profession. We had a delightful time but alas it was too short. I mean what you can explain to a class in 2 hours about one of the most demanding professions in the world? It was invigorating to see young people intent on expanding their world and I appreciated Mr. Cihan Dönmez's invitation. I would like to encourage other professionals to get involved with their community and invest in the lives of young people.
There is no doubt that translators play an important role in bridging cultures and bringing them together. It is also impossible to deny that there is a huge potential for inter-cultural misunderstanding if translators are not equipped both linguistically and culturally to understand the "other" peoples in the world. I say "other" (öteki) because unless translators can help people bridge the cultural gaps, Turks will always be the "other" to the Irish and the Irish will always be the "other" to Turks. Helping cultures understand one another and respect one another is truly a high calling.
Much of what translators do may be monotonous and sometimes even trivial but in some small way all of us translators have the opportunity to make a difference and contribute to world peace.
We are making it easier for people who are interested in being part of an online community focused on translation issues to join the community. We deal with any issue related to translation, including freelancing, translation technology, artistic translation, translator's rights, etc.
This will also help generate more traffic to your site and strengthen your community.

As a company, we want to contribute to the Turkish language. We know that some of Einstein's quotes have been translated, but we decided that we would like to compile a translation of some of his best quotes. You can access our list of Einstein quotes here.
Albert Einstein carries special meaning for us at turkishenglish.com because he represents a major paradigm shift. As a great thinker, he also had an interesting (and sometimes comical) viewpoint on a number of different topics.
We decided to publish them side by side to allow translators to compare the quotes in both languages and investigate whether the nuances have been captured. If you are interested in discussing some of the translations we have come up with, feel free to write a comment to this post.
The purpose of this blog will be to provide discussions of issues regarding translation, particularly those of interest to Turkish-English translators. Issues will also be relevant to English speakers learning Turkish or vice-versa.
Blogs entries will be in Turkish and in English.
